Martin Luther Hospital founded 80 years ago

80 years ago Martin Luther Hospital was founded. It was the first hospital in Germany led by women. Today MLK is part of Paul Gerhard Diakonie.

During those 80 years 98.200 babies were born here and today 25.000 patients are treated here per year. In 1931 MLK was the most modern hospital in Berlin. It was even better equipped as the famous Charité Hospital. One of the reasons to build MLK was the growing population of Berlin. Hospital beds became scarce. The project cost 4,5 Mio. Reichsmark and was completely financed out of donations. Even German President Paul von Hindenburg gave 200 Reichsmark from his privy purse.
Bild tabloid ran some pictures comparing hospital life today and 80 years ago.
